What is this: This is a shot of the top of the Nevada intake tower at Hoover Dam. I shot this photo at an off angle to alter perspective slightly. A side note: temps reached 110f when I was there.

As of Friday, I have been traveling for four weeks. As tiring as several weeks on the road can be, I have learned a great deal. For one, I have had the opportunity to take photographs in so many fantastic places from Seattle, to Crater Lake in Oregon. I have noticed that my attention to detail has improved so much when out on the street with my camera. I have been noticing much more in the way of opportunities for great photographs.

What is this: This is a rock garden on the beach in Ventura. I created the super silhouetted look by getting very low to the ground in order to hide the sun behind the rocks. I then pumped up the blacks and oranges in Lightroom to give this a bit more style and an almost painted look.

I Have a love for the outdoors, and a love for history. When I am able to merge the two into a single event, well lets just call it amazing. That’s why I love our National Park system so much. All the beauty, all the history, it is perfect. For me, A particularly intriguing part of our history is the Industrial era. This past week I finally made a long over due visit to Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, PA. I have lived within an hour of this great park all of my life, but some how it evaded me for 26 years.

Well here we are, the beginning of 2011, I hope you are not suffering too bad from over zealous celebration. Now it is time to both reflect on a year gone by and project forward. For me 2010 was a year of great accomplishment. I met a lot of people this year on the internet who did not kill me, actually they turned out to be some of my best friends. My climbing ability jumped nearly 2 grades. I climbed Devils Tower in Wyoming. I went to Los Angeles, something I’ve wanted to do for quite some time.
